Demi Lovato jets off to Chicago for specialist treatment

Demi Lovato has taken a break from rehab to visit a mental health expert in Chicago, Illinois, according to reports.

Sources tell TMZ the pop star flew out of Los Angeles with her mother on Thursday (09Aug18) to meet with a top psychiatrist, who specialises in mental health and sobriety issues.

Demi will spend the weekend in Chicago undergoing treatment before flying back to the rehab facility she checked into on Saturday (04Aug18).

According to the news outlet, officials in rehab urged Demi to spend time with the specialist in Chicago.

The pop star spent two weeks in hospital after reportedly suffering a drug overdose at her home in the Hollywood Hills last month (Jul18). Her publicist played down rumours suggesting the Cool for the Summer singer had OD'd on heroine, but little else is known about Demi's latest health struggles.

She recently confessed to relapsing and on Sunday (05Aug18), the 25 year old, who had been open about her struggles with alcohol and drugs, depression, eating disorders, and self-harming in the past, addressed her health emergency for the first time in a personal statement released via Instagram.

"I have always been transparent about my journey with addiction," Demi wrote. "What I've learned is that this illness is not something that disappears or fades with time. It is something I must continue to overcome and have not done yet."

She went on to explain that she will be taking some time to focus on her sobriety and "road to recovery", adding: "The love you have all shown me will never be forgotten and I look forward to the day where I can say I came out on the other side. I will keep fighting."

Meanwhile, she has scrapped the remainder of her world tour as she continues to recover.

The Confident hitmaker had been due to embark on the final leg of her Tell Me You Love Me World Tour with two gigs in Mexico in September (18) and six more across South America in November, but those shows have now been pulled as a result of Demi's health crisis.
